Kitchen Remodeling in Northville, MI

Northville takes its history seriously. The city was designated a local historic district in 1972, one of the first in Michigan, and its Historic District Commission reviews exterior changes to homes inside the district. That matters for kitchens. A remodel that stays inside the walls, like new cabinets, countertops and flooring, usually doesn't go before the commission. But adding or changing a window, cutting in an exterior vent for a range hood, or bumping the kitchen out with a small addition can all need commission review before work starts.

We plan with that in mind from the first meeting, so your design doesn't stall waiting on approvals. Many historic district homes are on the smaller side, and additions can be tricky, which is why we often look for space inside the existing footprint first.

Not every Northville kitchen is historic. Many homes in and around Northville, including in Northville Township, were built more recently and have room for larger islands, pantries and open layouts. Note that Northville Township is a separate community from the City of Northville, with its own building department. We confirm which one covers your address and handle the permits and inspections.

Seghi Renovations specializes in aging-in-place remodeling, and the kitchen is one of the best places to start. A well-planned kitchen lets you keep cooking, hosting and living independently in the home you love, now and for years to come. We design these kitchens to be safe and easy to use without looking clinical.

Northville's historic homes are often compact and built on more than one level. We look for ways to add accessibility inside the existing footprint, and we plan ahead if any exterior change, like a new entry, would need Historic District Commission review.
